Since Quran is the most important book to Muslims, and it’s Allah’s gift to us, we should memorise it, learn it, and read it correctly. There are several online
classes to teach you all of these but our platform, Arabic School, teaches you Quran in a very different and advanced way. However, before we talk about
online classes for Tajweed, let’s learn what’s the meaning of the word “Tajweed”.

• What is Tajweed?

“Tajweed” is an Arabic word that’s translated into “making something better”, “improving” or “proficiency”. When it comes to Quran reading and recitation,
Tajweed is actually a set of linguistic and pronunciation rules used in reciting the Quran to recite it in the way prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was reciting. Or we can say that it’s the art of reciting Quran correctly without committing any mistakes.

• Why is it important?

We’ve been ordered by Allah to try our best to read Quran in a good and correct way.

“…And recite the Qur’an with measured recitation.” [Qur’an 73:4]

Because Quran is Allah’s word, reading it accurately is a very serious matter since that will make us feel its meanings deeply. People during the time of the Prophet (PBUH) didn’t really need to learn much Tajweed because they were so skilled in Arabic and they didn’t commit any mistakes. However, after Islam spread all over the world and the Arabic language was mixed with other languages, learning Tajweed became very crucial.

Also, since many non-Arabic speakers are Muslims, they need to learn this art. In addition to obeying Allah, when non-Arabic speakers learn Tajweed or Quran, it’s considered a good deed. These people are learning a new language with new rules just to follow Allah’s orders and to become better Muslims, of course their efforts shall be rewarded.

Tajweed doesn’t only focus on the correct pronunciation of the sounds, but it also involves reading with correct intonation, and identifying light and heavy letters.

Tajweed is also crucial because pronouncing one single letter wrong can change the whole meaning of the verse, which is something that should be avoided at all costs.

As mentioned before, there are numerous benefits of reading Quran with Tajweed. Prophet Muhammad PBUH once said:

“The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.”

Even though learning Tajweed and Arabic can be hard sometimes, it’s a goal that’s worth working for because the good deeds you’ll be
getting are countless.
